@stormox @mariodarnadi Just got done reading through the backlist. Really good points made by both of you! I agree, making a 3 pc GPU render farm is expensive, but for the speed, you would get, its way cheaper than getting that same speed out of a CPU render farm. This all said I'm not knocking Arnold at all. I would love to have an Arnold license! I would love to have a dual CPU build to run it, which is what I'm planning on doing as soon as the i9 line comes out. But I chose Octane because it gave the results I wanted, in the amount of time I wanted it, and at a price, I could afford. Because don't get me wrong, Arnold can be just as fast, or faster then octane, if you can afford that many CPU's. Does this mean that mean that a team of 15 people on a major project, very deep in the industry should use Octane instead of Arnold? Absolutely not. Here is why. Arnold is much more stable, it has features that are just not possible in octane. For example, you cant have hair with the roots a different color than the tips. This could be a big problem if that what your client wants in a big project. Also, another big thing is, Arnold has been around much much longer and has been used much longer. Its more established, and more artists like to use it. A company of 30 people what love Arnold, are not just going to drop it and buy octane if it does the same thing. There is no point. This all said GPU rendering is the future, there is just no way around that. That is why Arnold is developing a GPU renderer, which is just dang amazing! At the same time, GPU rendering is still very very new, and in its infant stages. It's not 100% ready for the big time production because of limitations. But, someday it will, no doubt about that. But for now, CPU is and will be for at least a bit longer, the industry standard in reliability, quality, and features. Octane, Arnold, are tools. Artists are what use them to create beautiful work. I chose Octane because it is a tool that best fits me now, but I someday want to have Arnold too! Depending on which way my jobs went, I might have gotten Arnold first. There is no right or wrong here As another small note as well. There are not any online render farms for GPU's that I know of at this time. But there are tones of Online CPU render farms. Such as pixel plow. That all said, octane is creating an online render farm system as well, that would be built into octane its self, so in just one click you would have your project uploaded and rendering on their GPU system. That said, this may or may not be cheaper then pixel plow. Only time will tell. To be honest, I dream of a massive CPU and GPU build, where my CPU's render just as fast as GPU, and I have Arnold and Octane render at the same time! xD! I can dream
